The app doesn't recognise my child's voice. What should I do?

Speech recognition works best in a quiet environment. Make sure microphone and speech recognition permissions are enabled in Settings › Privacy & Security. If the problem persists, try speaking clearly and at a normal pace — the app is optimised for children's voices.

How do I enable the microphone?

Go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and enable the permission for TabTabTab. Do the same for Speech Recognition. Without these permissions the app cannot listen to answers.

How do I add a profile for another child?

From the home screen, tap the active profile name at the top. This opens the profile management screen, where you can add a new profile with a custom name and icon. Each profile has its own separate progress.

How does the learning algorithm work?

TabTabTab uses spaced repetition: facts are shown more often when they are about to be forgotten, and less often as they become consolidated. Tricky facts come back frequently; ones answered automatically are gradually put in the background.

What does the crown above a times table mean?

A full crown means the table is mastered: the child answers all its facts quickly and correctly across several consecutive sessions. An empty crown means it was mastered but is now fading — worth revisiting soon.

What is the MTC mode?

MTC mode simulates the UK Multiplication Tables Check exactly: 25 questions drawn from the 2–12 times tables, 6 seconds per question, with a 3-second pause between them — just like the real test taken in Year 4. Use it to practise under real conditions once the facts are well consolidated.

What does the MTC Readiness score mean?

After each session, TabTabTab estimates how ready your child is for the MTC, based on the 66 unique facts tested in the real check. A fact counts as ready when it has been answered correctly at least twice in a row, quickly enough to leave room for keypad entry. The score updates after every session.

Can I use the app without an internet connection?

Yes. TabTabTab's speech recognition works entirely on the device, with no audio data sent to external servers. The app works fully offline after installation.

My child's progress has been lost. Can I recover it?

Progress is saved locally on the device and is not synced with iCloud. If you have changed device or reinstalled the app, unfortunately it cannot be recovered. We are working on adding backup support in the future.

How many questions are in a standard session?

Each standard session consists of 20 questions and lasts around 3 minutes. You can choose which times tables to practise before starting.
